The Dene (an old English term for narrow valley or dale) is a verdant corridor that stretches along the east side of the park between Conservatory Water and the Zoo that features gently rolling lawns and shaded walks. In summer time it is a beautifully bucolic expanse of green that lies just a few feet from the bustling traffic of Fifth Ave.At the northern end is the East Green — a place for quiet reflection, reading or admiring the surrounding Kwanzan Cherry trees, crabapples, and magnolias in bloom. At the southern end is the rustic summerhouse, one of three such structures in Central Park, that sits atop an imposing rock outcropping. From the inside you can see the basic skeleton of its design, including the central post that curtains the roof.
