A Hidden Wilderness In Central Park

Less than a hundred yards away are some of the toniest hotels in New York City the Hallett Sanctuary lies just a popped champagne cork’s flight from the Plaza Hotel. A virtually untouched wilderness just steps down from Fifth Ave. it is an oasis for migrating birds and dozens of other denizens of the Park.

Central Park’s 843 acres represent 6% of the total surface of the island. It features a variety of terrains and vistas, ranging from the beautifully sculptured balustrades of Bethesda Terrace to the woodsy solitude of the Ramble. It offers each New Yorker, however much jaundiced and jaded, escape from the clamorous confines of the urban environment and insight into ourselves, not to mention the glimpse of the occasional raccoon. Central Park allows us to breath, to stretch, to discover possibilities and see around corners and into the great curved horizon that is so often hidden.
And sometimes it just lets us off the leash.
