hansel-webSafely back at home during the Halloween season, Hansel and Gretel experience the most vivid dreams where Central Park and the Belvedere Castle serve as the backdrop for a magical explosion of music, dance and exciting encounters with a host of lovable characters. The brother and sister team once again embark on an adventure where beautiful mermaids, adorable monsters, swashbuckling pirates, charming vampires and a fabulous witch all intertwine for one unforgettable Halloween night in New York City.

Show is recommended for children ages 3–9.

Performances take place Tuesday through Friday at 10:30AM and 12:00PM, Wednesdays at 10:30AM, 12:00PM, and 2:30PM, and Saturday and Sunday at 1:00PM

Attention all urban ghouls and goblins – Halloween is fast approaching and there are a frightening array of fun events lined up this year in New York’s Central Park!    Each October, the Central Park Conservancy offers an array of free Halloween programming throughout the Park, which has included spider crafts, live bat programs, costume parades, pumpkin carving and cooking demonstrations, theatrical productions, spooktacular sports, scary storytelling and New York City’s largest pumpkin flotilla on the Harlem Meer. Read below for information on our 2012 schedule of Halloween programs. All programs are free and there is no advance registration.  All ages are welcome. Programs will happen weather permitting.
2012 Schedule of Halloween Programs

  • Bats at Belvedere
    Friday, October 26, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
    Belvedere Castle
    Step into the mysterious world of bats and explore their benefits, habitats and nocturnal strategies in this live animal encounter program with conservation biologist Rob Mies. Ages 4+.
  • Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail
    Sunday, October 28, 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm
    Dana Discovery Center
    Enjoy spooky storytelling, crafts with marshmallows, pumpkin-carving demonstrations and more. Walk alongside Frankenstein in the costume parade at 5:45 pm, and then watch New York City’s largest pumpkin flotilla drift by on the Meer at twilight. Jack o' Lantern

Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail

Enjoy crafts, a pumpkin carving demonstration, a costume parade and more! Bring a carved jack-o’-lantern and let it set sail in New York’s largest pumpkin flotilla at sunset.

Along Came a Spider Craft
October 28, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Learn which spiders live in Central Park and create your own eight-legged friend out of recycled materials to decorate your home with this holiday.

Halloween at Belvedere: A Monster Musical Adventure

A young boy fights to save Halloween with help from some friendly monsters in this theatrical performance.

Halloween In Central Park

pumpOnce again the Central Park Conservancy is providing an entertaining array of Halloween activities including festive crafts, pumpkin carving, scary stories, and New York’s largest pumpkin flotilla! Wear your costume and get ready for a frightfully fun time! All events are FREE and will happen rain or shine. No advance registration.

Harlem Meer Social Hour:
Pumpkin Carving for Adults with Suzanne Beason
Thursday, October 15, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
At the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center (Inside the Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues)
Join us at our monthly series for adults as Suzanne Beason demonstrates how to carve and decorate a one-of-a-kind
jack-o’-lanterns.

Pumpkin Carving for Families
Friday, October 23, 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
At the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center (Inside the Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues)
Create a jack-o’-lantern and display it in our annual Pumpkin Sail on Sunday, October 25. For children ages six years and older with an accompanying adult.
